Birth flowers

A flower for every birth month

Like birthstones, every month has its own flower, and most have two. The tradition comes largely from Victorian flower language, when a bouquet was a way of saying something you could not say out loud. Here is all twelve, and what each one means.

What are birth flowers?

Birth flowers are the blooms traditionally associated with each month of the year, the way birthstones are. Most months carry two: a primary flower and an older secondary one. The custom comes largely from Victorian flower language, where each bloom had an agreed meaning.

Does every month have two birth flowers?

Almost every month does. January has the carnation and the snowdrop, February the violet and the primrose, and so on. We name both for each month and illustrate the primary one.

Can I send someone their birth flower for free?

Yes. On DigitalBouquet you can build a digital bouquet around any birth flower and send it as a private page with their name on it. It is free and takes about a minute.
